Huy Grants $40,000 to DOC Indigenous Hoops

Huy has granted $2,000 to each of twenty Indigenous Hoops in the Washington State Department of Corrections for use in religious and cultural activities. The monies will primarily be used for each Hoop’s annual pow wow celebration.

Huy’s monies are used to pay for traditional foods such as buffalo and wild salmon for consumption during Indigenous religious and cultural events; river rocks, willow branches, blankets and tarps needed for sweat lodge ceremony; beads and other arts and crafts materials for Indigenous religious curio activity; and seeds for Sacred Medicine Gardens.

Huy’s DOC Indigenous Hoop grant program is financially supported by the Inatai Foundation, Coordinated Care, as well as the Muckleshoot, Puyallup, Swinomish, Port Gamble S'Klallam, Suquamish, Nisqually, Stillaguamish, Kalispel, Tulalip, Chehalis, and Snoqualmie Tribes.
