Huy Presents Incarcerated Indigenous Peoples’ Concerns to US State Department

On March 14, 2024, Huy pro bono counsel Vince Redhouse provided virtual comments at the United States Department of State’s Tribal Roundtable in advance of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

The purpose of the Roundtable was for the State Department and other U.S. agencies to identify ways they can support Tribal leaders and non-governmental organizations in their efforts to promote self-determination and the voices of Indigenous youth.

In his comments, Vince raised the issues identified in Huy’s September 2023 submission to the U.N. Human Rights Committee in Relation to the United States’ 5th Periodic Report.  He also raised more recent issues, such as the failure of HB 2065 in Washington and Huy’s recent letter on behalf of practitioners of Indigenous religions at Mount Olive Correctional Complex in West Virginia.
